|Example of a Good Oral Hygiene Routine

|Any oral hygiene routine is better than none at all. However, at our office, we encourage you to talk with us about the best oral hygiene for you. Your teeth are important, and the only set you have! Good oral hygiene, along with regular dental care, is a must for your oral health.
What is Oral Hygiene?
Oral hygiene is a term for simply keeping your teeth and mouth clean, and free of disease, with regular dental, and at home care. When done routinely, proper oral hygiene will keep your teeth and mouth healthy (which improves your overall health), your breath fresh, and your smile beautiful.
How to Maintain a Good Oral Hygiene Routine
Like most things in life, establishing a regular routine for your oral health, will help it to become second nature, and your oral health will benefit. Your routine should consist of dental exams twice a year, and brushing, flossing, and possibly using a rinse at home.
You probably already brush your teeth when you wake up, and before you go to bed. If not, that is a great place to start. We recommend that along with brushing, you also floss daily, to keep the areas between your teeth clean. Once you get used to flossing along with brushing, it will become a habit, and you will enjoy the extra clean feeling. At your next dental check up, we can let you know if we feel a rinse, such as fluoride, would be helpful in your oral hygiene routine also.
Beyond just morning and evening when it comes to teeth brushing, try to consider your teeth after you eat snacks and meals. A quick brushing helps to remove any leftover food particles that may be left behind. If tooth brushing is not convenient, try to at least swish some water around your mouth to rinse, until you can brush your teeth.
