Intraoral Cameras![]() What is an Intraoral Camera? You are probably familiar with the small, metal, handheld mirror used by dental practitioners to get a close look at the visible structures inside your mouth. While this tool can see many things, it is not always the most effective. An intraoral camera is a technological improvement on the manual mirror. The wand is approximately the same size as a large pen. It is equipped with a tiny camera on one end and hooked up to a computer monitor on the other. When we place the camera inside your mouth, real-time images are projected onto the monitor. We are also able to capture stills. If we want to take a closer look at something, we can remove the camera from your mouth, giving you a break, while we use specialized software to manipulate the images on the computer. We can zoom in, enhance images, and even change the coloration. Helping to Build Your TrustWe understand that going to the dentist can be stressful, or fear-inducing, for some patients. This stress or fear often comes from the fact that you have little to no idea what is being done inside your mouth. In the past, what was seen was explained to you, while you just sat there with your mouth open. It could be difficult to understand what was being said, or you may not believe the severity of the issue. Thanks to the intraoral camera, you are finally able to take a good look at the structures inside of your mouth. As we move the intraoral camera, you can see exactly what we see. This can be helpful in alleviating fear and anxiety, as well as enable you to understand why we are recommending the treatment plans we recommend. The Benefits of Intraoral CamerasBeing able to build your trust in us is a major benefit to intraoral cameras, but it is not the only one. Intraoral cameras offer numerous benefits.
With the help of the intraoral camera, we can see even the smallest details of your mouth, providing treatments for issues in their earliest stages. In doing so, we help you to prevent serious issues from occurring, along with the need for invasive, expensive procedures.
