Happy 50th Birthday, Jan!
On January 21st, our very own Janice McIntyre celebrated her big 5-0! She commemorated the milestone by taking a trip out west, seeing Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore, Devil’s Tower and more. While not as glamorous, we celebrated when she got back with lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings and some Rise’n Roll donuts. Of course we also made her wear a glittery sash and crown! Happy Birthday, Jan!
Win A Chance for Some Cash in Our Cash Grab Machine!
Have you ever seen one of those cash grab machines and thought about how much fun it would be to try and grab some money out of midair? Well, Crossroads has your chance at some green-grabbing-glory!
At the end of each month (at least July, August, and September), one lucky raffle winner will have 30 seconds in the machine to grab up to $400 in cash!
One raffle entry will be earned by:
Sharing your Crossroads experience with others in the form of an online review on Google or Yelp or Facebook
Inviting a friend or family member to join our practice as a new patient. Make sure they mention your name!
Completing a new patient visit
So how does one come to be in possession of a cash grab machine anyways? Well, funny story. I noticed one in a storage area of my kids’ school from a fun fair event they hosted in years past. It wasn’t being used so I asked about bringing it to my office and let’s just say they were glad to free up their space. So, after a fun mini-van ride over to CFD with the machine (much to the delight of my ever-patient wife), we now have a cash grab machine at our disposal. After trying it myself, I will say that grabbing the fluttering bills is not as easy as I would have imagined. Either way, I hope this ends up being a fun event. Good luck to everyone!
Berns Family Explores Copper Country
In the mid 1800’s, copper was found in the Keweenaw Peninsula at the very northern tip of Michigan’s upper peninsula. Dozens of copper mining companies were formed to extract the sought after element from the earth, sometimes over a mile underground! All had closed by the mid 20th century, but their influence is still a large part of the heritage of the area.
In the summer of 2024, the Berns family also arrived in Copper Harbor, MI to do some family camping. We ate the stew-filled pastries called pasties (PAH-stees) that the miners brought down regularly for lunch in the mines and took a copper mine tour- thankfully lit by electric light and not the single candles used in the previous 2 centuries.
Adding to the history, our campgrounds were located at Fort Wilkins Historic State Park, the site of a pre-civil war Army fort built on the tip of the peninsula to protect our country’s copper interests. It was interesting to walk through restored buildings from the 1800’s and see artifacts from their way of life.
We also had the opportunity to eat some fresh seafood, swim in Lake Superior (which was a brisk 63 degrees when we were there), and go on a sunset cruise to celebrate 17 years of marriage to my wife, Rebecca. Overall, it was beautiful scenery, fun family time, and a great way to recharge before heading back to my usual exciting world of dentistry.
Proud to Partner with St. Mary Catholic Community School for Fourth Year as Corporate Sponsor
Most of you have probably seen the artwork from my 2 daughters adorning the walls of my dental treatment rooms at CFD. My girls are entering 6th and 8th grade this year at St. Mary’s in Crown Point, where they have both attended since junior pre-K. This upcoming school year marks the 4th year in a row that I have been blessed enough for Crossroads Family Dental to be a corporate sponsor, meaning that a financial donation from the business allows for over 500 students to enjoy a quality education within our faith community.
Besides financially, I have stayed involved in supporting my daughters’ education whether through the usual homework help or playing piano for school mass and the school musical last year. I’ve even been known to throw on a mullet wig to help out the teachers play some rock keyboard for the annual talent show!
In addition to St. Mary’s School, Crossroads has also been a regular sponsor of the Disabled American Veterans, the Lake County High School Band Boosters, the DAWN women’s program at NIPSCO, the Lake County 4-H, and the Schererville Chamber of Commerce. Thank you so much for your continued support of our office, which allows us to be in a position to give back to the region!
